Kauri Villas is centrally located between Whangarei township and Ocean Beach.
The Town Basin marina precinct offers a great variety of cafes, restaurants and specialty shops, soak up the atmosphere of this international yachting hub while enjoying a coffee or meal. Take a stroll along the waterfront, see artwork by local artists. For the children our popular playground with a liberty swing (wheelchair accessible swing) is sure to delight. It is an easy walk to our city centre with attractive pedestrian mall set amongst the greenery.
There are walkways linking Onerahi through to the Town Basin and on to Parihaka Scenic Reserve then on to the AH Reed Kauri Park and Whangarei Falls. The tracks at AH Reed Kauri Park take you up into the Kauri tree canopy for a birds eye view of the bush.
Abbey Caves with amazing limestone rocks. If you are not afraid of getting wet you will be rewarded with an awesome experience. We have maps of the caves available.
Drive through to the Tutukaka Coast, take a boat trip to the world renowned Poor Knights Islands for an unforgettable experience.
Ocean Beach is great for surfing, body boarding and walking. There are so many beautiful beaches to explore in our region. Lots of great fishing, diving, snorkelling and swimming spots.
Something special and unique around every corner of this coastal paradise. Rugged remnants of ancient volcanoes rise from the sea in majestic peaks. The Whangarei Heads peninsula offers an amazing range of walking tracks for all fitness levels. Spectacular views await those who rise to the challenge of the Mt Manaia and Mt Aubrey tracks. Step back in time as you walk the Busby Head track past the historic gun emplacement at the harbour entrance. Carry on through the coastal forest track to Smugglers Cove where you can enjoy a swim and a picnic before heading over the farm track back to Urquharts Bay carpark. The Bream Head/Te Whara track with a summit at 476m above sea level, offers spectacular 360 degree views for those wanting a more challenging track.

How to find us:
Some recent visitors driving up from Auckland and relying on in-car GPS have been directed through Whangarei onto Whareora Road and over Mount Tiger to arrive at Kauri Villas from the North! The routes described below is more direct – and prettier, following the coastal road to Whangarei Heads.
Directions to Onerahi
ROUTE ‘A’ (Avoiding Town Centre – Shorter)
On approaching Whangarei – at the first set of traffic lights TURN RIGHT (signposted “PORT WHANGAREI”)
After about 3 Km TURN LEFT at the ‘T’ junction just after the railway crossing.
After 300m TURN RIGHT at the roundabout (NOW there are signs to Whangarei Heads!) Then after 200m TURN RIGHT again at the next roundabout.
This takes you straight onto the Te Matau a Pohe bridge (with its distinctive twin fishhook design) where you continue for another kilometre to a roundabout where you TURN RIGHT for Whangarei Heads. After 4 km you will be in Onerahi.
ROUTE ‘B’ (Through Town Centre)
Approaching Whangarei go STRAIGHT ON at the first set of traffic lights.
Continue for 2km (past the Tourist Information “iSite”) and TURN RIGHT into Tarewa Road, following signs for
Onerahi, the Airport and Whangarei Heads.
Cross Riverside Bridge as you leave town and continue for 6km to Onerahi.
Directions after Onerahi
(distances shown from here)
Through Onerahi turn left at the roundabout just before “Hammer Hardware”. (0.3km).
Follow Whangarei Heads Road past the Pines Golf Club (7.7km).
Continue towards Parua Bay, past the Sailing Club and
Parua Bay Tavern, both on your right.
At the top of the next rise, turn left into Owhiwa Road (12.6km).
Kauri Villas is then 700m on the left (13.3km)
